Purpose and core business

Bergzicht Training focusses on a very important sector of the job market that are serviced by few organisations. That is to equip less privileged persons who have little or no scholastic education or limited working skills with the skills they need to rise above their circumstances of poverty. Especially women are trained for the relevant careers that will enable them to earn a living and grow in self-esteem. An internal Placing Bureau ensures successful job placement after the training.

Core Programs offered

Foundational Course and Home Management: trains students as home assistants, office cleaners and general workers for the retail, hospitality and catering industries.

Edu Care: trains students as education assistants in crèches, children’s playgrounds, day care centres and as au pairs.

Health and Frail Care: trains students as Health and Frail Care workers for frail care centres, hospices, old age homes, and as assistants that work in private homes, hospitals and health care centres.

City and Guilds Professional Cooking and Food and Beverage Service: trains students as chef assistants or customer service assistants in the hospitality, tourism and catering industries.

Sustainability and risk management

  • Bergzicht Training has a 23 year track record of effective training and successful job placement
  • More than 10 000 persons have been trained since the founding of Bergzicht in 1992.
  • Measureable and reachable goals are set for the diversification of income streams
  • An effective financial risk management strategy for continued sustainability is in place

Impact and success

  • In 2014 and 2015 the success rate for job placement after training was 76%. Systems are in place to increase that to above 80%
  • In 2014 and 2015 a total of 340 persons were trained in the core programmes
  • An independent company was contracted in 2014 to evaluate the focus and impact of Bergzicht Training.The report confirmed that the training is not only effective, but also relevant in terms the current needs of society.

  • The total cost of training planned for 2016 will be R2,6m
